So, if you are going to provide Quotes we will need to show them a form where they can provide input as to the variables. What will you have to have to be able to provide a quote?
They tell you what they need and you give them an estimate. So, what do they need to provide?
Are there different types of quotes?
Do you want to show examples?
As for the pricing and stuff that will heavily depend on several things such as size, print/design times, material, etc. So it’d be more like a quote. They tell me what they need and I give an estimate.
In the future if it ends up going well I’d like to be able to offer CNC machined parts as an option where I send the design out to be machined and things of that nature but that’s not something I’d be doing right off the bat.
To answer your questions on the quotes page, The most important things I’ll need in order to give one are,
- The size of the part (rough dimensions will do),
- The application of the part and what material they think they need. (I will give advice on what materials to use based on the application of the piece),
- And any 3D files in .stl format if applicable.
Or if they can send me a technical drawing of the part
for example The website McMaster Car has technical drawings as well as 3D files for all the parts you can buy from them.
Having 3d models already made of the part, or parts that it needs to fit with will significantly assist in the design stage,
sometimes eliminating it entirely if the file sent to me doesn’t need any modifications. I expect this will be very rare.
Another very important thing to know is whether I’m making an identical part to an already existing one or whether I’m making something custom.
In the case of a custom part I’ll need to know what changes need to be made or if I’m making a park completely from scratch
I’ll need some form of technical drawing, complete with dimensions and tolerances if applicable.
